Brother Martin Hosts “Sock It To Me” Sock Drive

During the week of Monday, April 11th through Friday, April 15th, Brother Martin is hosting a sock drive for Lantern Light Ministry. The Crusader “Sock It To Me” sock drive is sponsored by the Welcoming Diversity Club and will be collecting new and gently used socks (clean and free of holes). They may be any style, but the socks should fit adult males and females. Students are encouraged to bring sock donations to their Religion classrooms during the week, and to also take part in the “Crazy Sock Day,” and the “Change for Change” collections.

Throughout the week, Crusaders will receive information on the homeless, their needs in our community, and become aware of ways that Brother Martin High School provides assistance in addressing those needs. Sr. Vera Butler, Lantern Light, and the Homeless of New Orleans will be included in our prayer intentions. We will be reminding our young men that their donations not only fulfill a Corporal Work of Mercy, and help someone who is less fortunate, but also provide a “yes” to Pope Francis who has called each of us to live this year as one of Divine Mercy.

Timeline of Events:

  • Monday 4/11 – Friday 4/15 – Socks donated in Religion classrooms.
  • Wednesday 4/13 and Thursday 4/14 “Change for Change”- Students will donate their change for change.
  • Thursday 4/14  “Crazy Sock Day” – Students must be in full regulation Brother Martin uniform, with the exception of their most-crazy socks.
  • Friday 4/15 – Final day of the drive. Br. Carl Bouchereau will incorporate the drive into the Easter Liturgy and mention will be made of those who are benefiting from the “fruits of our labors.”
