Brother Martin High School held its 21st Annual Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, June 5th. The weather couldn’t stop the gathering of Brother Martin alumni, families, and friends while participants competed for various titles in 14 categories.
The Captain’s Party, held at Sportsbeat Pub & Cafe, kicked off the event earlier in the week. Fishermen and guests were able to register while they enjoyed complimentary food, beverages, and fishing tips.
Rob Hymel and Jay Hotard ’82 entertained the crowd with music as Eddie Gonzales ’77 served as the emcee. The younger fishermen competed in the fish toss and enjoyed a water slide. The Schmidt Family Cooking Team provided delicious fried fish, french fries and other dishes. Emile Meydrich served sno-balls, Vance Vaucresson ’87 served delicious sausages and treats, and Andrew Noto and Ralph Friebert ’82 with Planning Associates Wealth Management, LLC served pastalaya. The Class of 2008 Drink Team served up beverages, Brian Spellman ’00, BSpell Paint, designed the trophies, and Sea Brook Harbor & Marine displayed a beautiful boat on-site.
Three Rodeo records were set, Team Phinns & Feathers with a 26.80 lbs, 5-trout Stringer, Cameron Linn ’19 with 27 spots on a redfish, and McCarroll with a gar fish that was too big to register on the scale. It was 100 lbs. plus!
The Brother Martin Cheerleaders sold “Big Board Raffle” spots and a Parade of Prizes consisting of gift cards, Brother Martin gift baskets, a Brother Martin pirogue, and much more.
