Brother Martin Competes in LMEA District VI Festival

thumb_clip8_1024On Monday, October 24, 2016,  the Crusader Band and Dominican Debs participated in their annual LMEA District VI Marching Band Assessment!  This performance is a culmination of months of work beginning in July.  The Crusader Band and Debs performed with the kind of excitement typical of these two groups of students.

The Crusader Band and Debs performed a four song program entitled, “A Musical Journey.”  The opening song was  “I Can See For Miles,” a rock arrangement of the The Who’s song and featured Senior Lieutenant Michael Lopez, ‘17 on a trumpet solo.  The second number featured songs from a combination of two high powered band acts:  “Survival of the Flyest,” by Too Many Zooz, and “The Contender” by Royal Crown Review.  “Flyest” featured Senior Drum Major Chandler Dupuy ‘17, Michael Lopez ‘17, Senior Band Captain Ryan O’Rourke ‘17 and Senior Band Sergeant Konnor Bordlee ‘17 in a combo!  The Band segued to “The Contender”  which featured the Debs and Ryan O’Rourke ‘17 soloing and dancing at stage front!14556594_10209295493399370_50352731741127246_o

The Crusader Drum Line was featured next in Gustav Holst’s “Mercury” from The Planets!  This drum feature was created and arranged by Mr. Chris Bailey and made use of every facet of our talented and well-trained percussionists.

At this point, the ‘Musical Journey’ is about to reach its climax!  Rounding out the 2016 Festival Performance, the Band and Debs performed “Jupiter” from Holst’s The Planets.  This chart is from the “Classic Library” of marching band literature and was arranged by Jay Bocook.

Finally, the Band and Debs received their Assessment ratings:

Drum Major, Superior
Auxiliary, Superior
Percussion, Superior
Overall Band, Excellent

Brother Martin is so proud of our band and its many accomplishments. Additionally, the entire Brother Martin Band and school are proud of our collaboration with the spectacular Dominican Debs Dance Team.  The Debs are led by Mrs. Fran Gandolfi Moran and Mrs. Sina Baldwin. Way to go, Crusader Band and Debs!
