Brother Martin Chorus Participates in 2023 LMEA District Music Performance Assessments

Last Friday, the Brother Martin Chorus participated in the LMEA District Music Performance Assessment at the University of New Orleans. This was their first in-person assessment since 2019. The Chorus received the Sweepstakes Award for straight superior ratings in concert performance and in sight reading. The following criteria were used to evaluate their concert performance: tone, intonation, technique, balance, and musicianship. The group received superior ratings from all three judges for their concert performance. The singers received commendations from the judges for their tone, their attention to text stress, and their preparation. One judge remarked that it was the “most musical performance I have heard at a festival in a long time.”

The sight reading component of the assessment required the group to correctly perform a musical selection at sight. The sight reading performance was assessed using the following criteria:  performance fundamentals, technical accuracy, and musicianship. The group received a superior rating from the sight reading judge as well.

Congratulations to the Chorus on their Superior achievement!
