This issue's Faculty Profile features a teacher in his first year at Brother Martin and is written by junior Nicolas Chanes.

Aaron Reller, age 27, teaches Spanish II and III at Brother Martin.

  • Born and raised in Owatonna, Minnesota, Mr. Reller attended Owatonna High School.
  • Growing up, he participated in student council along with various other athletics and extracurriculars.
  • During his high school and college years, he excelled in language arts which allowed him to eventually pursue a Masters degree in education.

After graduating from high school, Mr. Reller attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he double-majored in Public Relations and in Spanish.

  • During his college years, he began to realize that his calling in life was to make a difference in the lives of others through education.
  • Mr. Reller always wanted to impact the lives of others no matter what it took to get there, as he now declares, The students make a difference to me.
  • He concluded his time at St. Thomas with the reception of a Masters degree in Education, which propelled him to a five- year career at St. Joseph's Catholic School in Madison, MS.
At St. Joseph's, Mr. Reller taught Spanish I-IV in addition to assuming the role of assistant principal and disciplinarian.
  • He taught at a Catholic school, he says, because he valued the essence of a holistic education. His faith had always been a significant part of his life, so he desired to continue maintaining it an indispensable part of his life.
  • The most significant events during his time at St. Joseph's were the yearly service projects to Nicaragua that allowed him to give back to those who were less fortunate. He remembers the joy it brought him when his group managed to attain running water for the first time in the town. Mr. Reller recounts, It is the little miracles that allow me to see God in others. It is through others that I am able to believe in what I do.
  • His emphasis on holistic education and religion played a large part in the decision he and his wife made to relocate to New Orleans in order to become closer to family.
  • Mr. Reller recognized even from afar that Brother Martin had an exceptional reputation as he began his search for a position in New Orleans.
Upon his first impression of Brother Martin, he knew this was the place where he was meant to be. Mr. Reller articulated that The physical space of the school said a lot about its quality.
  • The first day I stepped onto the campus, a student opened the door for me, which spoke volumes.
  • He believes that his role at Brother Martin continues the legacy of helping others discover their way in life. As I assist others in finding their way in life, it also helps me find my way as well. The students inspire me, he says.

Currently, Mr. Reller manages the World Culture Club in conjunction with the Spanish classes he teaches. He is in the process of completing a Masters program in Educational Administration at Notre Dame.

  • In addition to his role as a model for all students at Brother Martin, he hopes to serve as an example to his recently born daughter. Her name is Anna Frances Reller, and she was born on September 11, 2014.
  • Mr. Reller continues to inspire others as he lives for others on a daily basis.
