An October 23, 2011, article in the Times Picayune spotlighted a sports car that was hand-built in New Orleans and runs on compressed natural gas. Maxwell Materne ('06) designed the electrical system and was co-driver on a cross-country trip from New York City to Los Angeles to demonstrate the practicality of the design. The automobile, The Magnolia Special, was also the subject of a piece in the September 2011 issue of Wired magazine.
Though only a sophomore, SS Gregory Deichmann has verbally committed to play baseball at LSU in the recruiting class of 2014. Another Crusader diamondman, senior OF Rivers Frederick, has committed to LSU Eunice.

The cross at the right of the entrance is a larger version of the crosses Father Andre Coindre erected in French towns where he preached missions. Fr. Coindre founded the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Lyons in 1821.
The chapel nears completion as the November 19 Dedication approaches.

In January 1997, Brother Martin hosted the first New Orleans Province Faaculty Day of Recollection.
350 faculty members from St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis MS, Catholic High in Baton Rouge, E. D. White in Thibodaux, and Vandebilt Catholic in Houma as well as Brother Martin celebrated the 150th anniversary of the brothers' arrival in Mobile from France and reflected on the educational charism their schools share.
Speakers included the provincial superior, Brother Paul Montero, S.C., and Brother Bernard Couvillion, S.C., Superior General of the order at the headquarters in Rome and former English teacher at Brother Martin.
