News and Notes
Three faculty member with a combined 90 years of service at Brother Martin are retiring at the end of this school year.
  • Susan Cooper has been the rock of the English Department for 36 years.
  • Randy Asprodites (SA '65) has taught Art for 35 years and coached the Golf Team the last 14 of those years.
  • Laurie Leftwich, who took Computer Science at Brother Martin while a student at Mount Carmel, has served in the Guidance Department for 19 years and pioneered the position of College Counselor in 1996-97.

All three brought gifts to the altar in the offertory procession at the annual Call to Leadership Mass in the Conlin Gymnasium May 14. The next morning, during the daily 8 AM prayer over the PA system, principal Greg Rando ('77) read this:

We come to you in thankfulness for the many years of service given by our friends, colleagues, and teachers, Mr. Randy Asprodites, Ms. Susan Cooper, and Ms. Laurie Leftwich who are retiring after long careers here at Brother Martin High School. We thank you for the long-term contributions they have made in the execution of daily work here at Brother Martin and for their loyalty to our school. We are appreciative of their hard work and dedication and all their wisdom and guidance that they have shared here for a combined 90 years of service. They have adapted to many changes over the years and have made sacrifices when their jobs demanded it. They have worked faithfully despite their own personal obligations, joys, and challenges.
We pray for your continued blessings on them as they are about to begin the next phase of their lives. May your Presence be with them as they choose new paths and explore new horizons. May they be blessed with strong networks of friends and family to enjoy the journey that lies ahead. Keep them strong in body, mind, soul and spirit. Open new doors of service that will satisfy their desire to give and that will make a lasting difference in our world. Today we leave them with this blessing from Matthew’s Gospel: "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!" (Matthew 25:23)
And so we end our prayer, thankful for what has been and grateful for what has yet to be.
