News and Notes
  • Mark Romig ('74), featured in the January 2012 Crimson Shield ("A Busy Man"), chaired the NOLA Navy Week Host Committee for the New Orleans War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemoration event in April. The celebration featured a colorful spectacle of ships on the Mississippi River. Mark was chosen as a Golden Crusader in 1974.

  • Greg Buisson ('77) was seen on TV the evening of the New Orleans Council-at-Large election last month. Sporting a Brother Martin shield on his lapel, Greg spoke to the media as Cynthia Willard-Lewis's political consultant. A graduate of Loyola with a degree in Communications and Political Science, Greg served as Vice-President and General Manager of WVUE-TV from 1985-2000. Since then, he has been a consultant to a number of political candidates, including Kenner Mayor Michael Yenni. Greg was a Golden Crusader in 1977, as was his son, Collin, in 2011.

  • Doug Mouton ('81) has been the Northshore Bureau Chief for WWL-TV, Channel 4, since 2002. However, since Jim Henderson's retirement, he has been doing sports, his first love. A 20-year television veteran, Doug won an Emmy Award in 2004 and an Edward R. Murrow Award in 2005.

Did You Know?

The first addition to Brother Martin High School after the merger was described in a September 30 1977 article in the Martin Crusader by Brett Prendergast ('80).

  • The "long awaited" expansion at the Lake end of the school was delayed because of a rise in the projected cost from $160,000 to $285,000. Further, the weather caused by Hurricanes Anita and Babe pushed back the tearing down of the garage.
  • Designed by George Saunders and Associates, the building included a workshop, student patio, and offices on the first floor for yearbook, photography, newspaper, and NJROTC supply. The second floor housed five badly needed classrooms that would allow the disposal of the portable classrooms that had been brought from St. Aloysius eight years earlier.
  • The building was completed in time for the 1978-9 school year. Like the brothers' residence, the north addition was torn down to make room for the Meyer Math & Science Building in 2004.
