Mother, Roosevelt, Blondes Chosen As Ideals by Aloysians
Who is your ideal man? Your ideal woman? Do you prefer blondes or brunettes? A recent survey made by staff reporters reveals quite a change in the opinion of today’s high school student from that of the pupil of four years ago. For two years [Charles] Lindbergh was the idol of youth and no other individual was able to come near him in popularity ballots. But apparently, youth must have continued action in order that they may be influenced by any character.
Aloysius students voted strongly for Roosevelt as their ideal man. The president polled 308 votes here. Father, or "My Pop" as one Freshie wrote, came second with 76 tallies. Babe Ruth, Mussolini and Lindbergh gathered 13 votes each. Other popular ideals were: Bing Crosby, Huey P. Long, Al Smith, Clark Gable and Mahatma Gandhi.
Naturally MOTHER was acclaimed the ideal woman. More than 300 voted her their favorite exemplar of noble womanhood. Mrs. Roosevelt came second with 50 votes. One class seemed to lack knowledge of what is meant by a high ideal – it voted solidly for Mae West. It would be rather unfair to name the class. Jean Harlow, Dorothy Dix, Mrs. Lindbergh and Katherine Hepburn drew scattered admirers here and there.
BLONDES predominated by a count of 172 votes. Brunettes came second with 113 votes whereas the historical red head polled but 60 votes.
