The line "the joke was printed in one of the newspapers" referred to the fact that Picayune sports writer N. Charles Wicker mentioned in his weekly prep column that St. Aloysius students were enjoying their new swimming pool.

The myth continued at Brother Martin, with upperclassmen selling tickets to the rooftop pool to unsuspecting eighth graders.
