8th Grade Football Has A Season To Remember

For forty-nine eighth graders, this was not just any other eighth grade football season. The Crusaders finished their season last Friday with a dominating 36 to 14 victory over Catholic League rival Archbishop Rummel. The team completed the season with an overall record of 8 and 1 and was undefeated in Catholic League play. The Crusaders earned victories over KIPP-NOLA, St. Paul’s, Vandebilt Catholic, Holy Cross, Jesuit High School (2), and Archbishop Rummel (2) naming the Crusaders the out right district champions. The lone defeat came in a 14 -12 loss to Algiers Charter.

The team outscored it’s opponents 220 to 88, and recorded 11 interceptions on the season. The Crusaders also threw 9 touchdown passes and rushed for 17. However, statistics were not the only thing that defined this group of young men. One opposing coach described them as,”the toughest, most disciplined eighth grade football team I have ever seen.” For twelve weeks, these forty-nine student-athletes represented their eighth grade class and Brother Martin High School with class, character, and determination.  Congratulations on a great season!
