Environmental Science students in Mr. Thomas’ class conducted a study on the environmental quality at Brother Martin. Using GPS devices, pH sensors and temperature probes, Crusaders gathered water samples from three different test sites located throughout campus. Using graphs to analyze the data they collected from their field studies, Crusader scientists were able to discover no alarming thermal or chemical pollution which needed to be addressed. Across the sites, slight differences were discovered such as the water in the Chapel drainage area was colder and more acidic than the water in the backyard drains. Students hypothesized that the colder temperature was due to the water being exposed to wind and possibly from contact with the rocks in the Chapel drainage area. Below is a sample diagram outlining the ranging pH levels.
