The Brother Martin High School Board of Directors has named Mr. Mark T. Wisniewski ’81 as the nineteenth recipient of the annual Brother More Schaefer, S.C., Faculty Award. Mr. Wisniewski, in his 20th year of teaching at Brother Martin, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeast Louisiana University. In addition to his work in the classroom as a Health and Physical Education teacher, Mr. Wisniewski currently serves as chair of the Health and Physical Education Department and Head Baseball Coach. Formally, he was the Head Wrestling Coach, Assistant Disciplinarian, Summer School Disciplinarian, and Summer Work Study Coordinator.
Mr. Wisniewski was named Metro Wrestling Coach of the year in 1996. He was twice named Metro Coach of the year and was chosen American Legion Coach of the year three times for baseball. He currently sits on the Board of Health and Safety for the American Red Cross for Southeastern Louisiana.
The Brother More Schaefer Award is named for Brother More Schaefer, a Brother of the Sacred Heart and a master educator at Brother Martin High School until his death in 1983. The award was presented to Mr. Wisniewski for his outstanding efforts to evangelize students through education.
Mr. John Devlin, President of Brother Martin High School, Judge Robert Burns SA’62, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Mr. Gregory Rando ’77, Principal, made the presentation at the annual faculty luncheon on January 31st at the Hampton Inn-New Orleans Convention Center.
The Board also presented a Founders’ Medal to Mr. Rod Gunnell. Mr. Gunnell, owner of New Orleans Reproductions, was recognized for his on-going contribution to the Crusaders’ sports programs, alumni events, Ladies of the Shield events, Cajunfest, and the Extravaganza. Mr. Gunnell’s son, Ryan, graduated in 2004.
