Ladies of the Shield

Mission Statement

Ladies of the Shield was formed in 2006, with the intention of establishing scholarships in honor of our sons and/or husbands who are graduates of St. Aloysius, Cor Jesu or Brother Martin. The Ladies of the Shield also support Brother Martin High School and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and their Partners in Mission through continued involvement in the Brother Martin community.

The Ladies of the Shield Scholarship was completed in July of 2013. Since that time, all funds raised were dedicated to Brother Jean Sobert, S.C. Student Activities Endowment at Brother Martin. In August of 2020, the Ladies of the Shield Endowment was established to assist with the greatest needs of Brother Martin High School as deemed by the Principal and President.

Our primary fundraising activity, “The Holiday Home Tour” is held in December each year. The Ladies of the Shield also share their time and talents assisting at Parents Club meetings, and Open House.

If you know of a prospective member with a love for Brother Martin who would be interested in joining, please share our information with them or call us at (504) 284-6700 for more information.

St. Joseph Altar

The St. Joseph Altar is traditionally held in the James B. Branton Chapel in the course of two days in honor of the feast day. St. Joseph is the Patron Saint of the Universal Church, of fathers and husbands, of workers, as patronage of the sick and of a happy death. The Ladies of the Shield, partnering with Campus Ministry, volunteers through donations, baking Italian cookies, distributing prayer cards, and educating guests about the altar’s rich history to students, families, friends, and guests.
