Crusaders Make it Official on National Signing Day

IMG_9677On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, seniors Bruce-Jordan Swilling, Tre Swilling, Jeremy Singleton, Dylan Walker, and Vejon Wallis signed their Letters of Intent on National Signing Day to play football at the collegiate level. These five members of the Crusader football team have been outstanding on and off the field from scoring touchdowns, to leading in rushing and receiving, as well as appearing on the honor roll.   They were surrounded by faculty/staff, friends, family, and the media in the Brother Mark Thornton Terrace on one of their most exciting days of their high school career.   Bruce and Tré signed their letters to play with Georgia Tech, while Jeremy signed with the University of Houston.  Dylan signed with Southern University, and Vejon signed to play at Houston Baptist. Prior to the signing of the letters, Duke Carter of WWL- TV, from the morning show, kicked off signing day by interviewing these five young men.  Later, Mark Bonis, head football coach, addressed the crowd on behalf of the student- athletes and emphasized the importance that these young men have had on Brother Martin and on their team. “These five young men truly epitomize what it means to be a Brother Martin High School football player,” said Bonis. Asking the parents of the young men to stand up, he commended them for their love and service to their son. Then, he also revealed how gratifying it has been as a coach to see these Crusaders grow and mature from their first years as underclassmen to their senior year as leaders here at Brother Martin. Bonis also acknowledged that these Crusaders have set an example for the underclassmen and hope that they continue in their careers with consistency and with purpose.

Congratulations, Crusaders and their families!
