Bro. Carl and Bro. Louis Answer the Call…

carllouis300X200Brother Carl Bouchereau, S.C. and Bro. Louis Couvillon, S.C., who are so special to Brother Martin High School, have answered the call of the United States Province to respond to needs elsewhere and will be leaving Brother Martin at the conclusion of 2016-2017 school year.

After serving our school community in a variety of roles on and off since August of 1970, Brother Carl has accepted the role of Director of the Brothers’ Community in Pascoag, Rhode Island. The Pascoag Residence is the largest in the United States Province with over 25 Brothers in retirement and semi-retirement in the community. Carl previously directed large Brothers’ communities here in New Orleans and in Bay St. Louis. At the request of our Provincial, Brother Mark Hilton, he has once again generously accepted this responsibility with our largest and oldest community. Carl’s endless energy and his involvement in everything from Liturgy décor and the St. Joseph altar, to his attention to the students in his care in Guidance, will be a challenge to replace.

Since joining the Brother Martin faculty as Campus Minister in August of 1983, Brother Louis has also served our school community in a variety of roles. Louie has accepted the role of Director of a new Brothers’ Community in Metuchen, New Jersey and will be working in campus ministry at St. Joseph High School, reunited with Justin Fleetwood, Anne Rivera, and Greg Brandao. Our very first school-wide Liturgy and our required retreat program were initiated with Louie’s leadership. Since his ordination over twenty years ago, his daily presence on our campus as an ordained Brother of the Sacred Heart has been an incredible gift to our school community, to our grads, and to the larger Crusader community city-wide.

Specific roles and responsibilities are one thing, however, the unseen contributions these two men have made to Brother Martin for a substantial portion of their lives in community would be impossible to list or categorize. The personal attention, enthusiasm for communicating and modeling the charism of our founder, and the passion for our mission here in New Orleans will be sorely missed.

Let the willingness of these two friends be a model to all of us of what their vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience mean to the Brothers worldwide as they make these changes in assignment.

Thank you, Louie and Carl! Our prayers and best wishes travel with both of you to your new assignments.

Bro. Carl and Bro. Louis through the years…..
