Rising Senior Wrestler Gives Louisiana Team a Jolt

Blaine Elsensohn, a rising senior on the Crusader wrestling team, has an exciting pin in the last match of the dual to give the Crusader Wrestling Club (CWC) a come from behind victory over the Oklahoma Rampage in the quarterfinals of the Jazztown Duals. Moving On

Thursday afternoon, the Brother Martin Athletic Department held a spring signing ceremony in the Thornton Terrace for 9 Crusader student-athletes who are continuing their careers at the next level. 8 Wrestlers Named to New Orleans All-Metro Team

Eight members of the 2013-2014 State Champion Crusader wrestling team were named to the New Orleans All Metro Team.  Junior wrestler Paul Klein was also named the Division I Most Valuable Wrestler and The New Orleans Advocate’s Wrestler of the Year.  Klein won the Division I state championship in the 132-pound weight class and helped Brother Martin win its third straight title. Klein Named Amateur Athlete of the Month

Three-time state champion junior Paul Klein has been selected as the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month for February. Klein won his third straight individual state championship in the State Tournament this past winter and helped lead Brother Martin to its third consecutive team state championship. Wrestling Convocation

The Athletic Department hosted the annual Wrestling Convocation recently and honored the 2014 State Championship Crusader team. All levels of wrestlers–from junior high to varsity–were honored for an undefeated season. Wrestling is a winter sport. The season begins in November and the state tournament is held in February. Conditioning begins in September, and official practice begins the first week of October. The team also competes in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling as the Crusader Wrestling Club. The wrestling team consistently has 100 plus members.

The Wrestling program currently holds a school record 15 state championships. The Crusaders have won 103 individual state championship titles since 1972. The 2012-2013 team holds the Louisiana Division I State Tournament record for most points scored with 339. The 2000 team holds the Louisiana Division I State Tournament record for

  • Most State Finalist: 12
  • Most State Champions: 7

The team competes in many major out of state tournaments throughout the season.

There are three divisions:

  • Junior High (Grades 7 – 9)
  • Junior Varsity (Grades 9 – 11)
  • Varsity (Grades 9 – 12).

Dual Meets and Tournaments are held throughout the week.
