Klein Named Amateur Athlete of the Month

Wrestler Paul Klein has been selected as the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month honor for February. The monthly award-winners are chosen in voting by the Greater New Orleans Sports Award Selection Committee, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Putting Louisiana Wrestling on the Map

4-time individual state champion Paul Klein has recently broken into the top 20 wrestlers in the nation for his weight class according to the Asics Flowrestling rankings system. Wrestling Claims 4th Straight State Title!

Brother Martin once again claimed the top spot in Louisiana wrestling after capturing its fourth consecutive Division I team title at the 2015 LHSAA State Wrestling Championships at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner on Saturday. Wrestling Heads into State Tournament With St. Paul’s Invitational Win

In the final tournament before the State tournament, Brother Martin reached the finals in 13 of 14 weight classes, and won eight titles on their way to a 1st place finish in the St. Paul’s Invitational. The Crusaders won with 268 points followed by host St. Paul’s with 161 points, Jesuit (146.5), Holy Cross (128), Destrehan (55), Fontainebleau (54), John Ehret (34), Mandeville (34), and Covington (33).  Good luck in the State tournament, Crusaders! Wrestling Handles Rummel in 59-19 Win

The Rummel Raiders entered the Conlin Gym with hopes of spoiling Senior Night for the Crusader wrestlers, but those hopes were quickly squashed.  The Raiders took an early 7-0 lead after the first two matches then wouldn’t win another until the 220 lb. match.  Brother Martin dominated the middle weight classes on their way to a 59-19 win over the Raiders. Wrestling is a winter sport. The season begins in November and the state tournament is held in February. Conditioning begins in September, and official practice begins the first week of October. The team also competes in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling as the Crusader Wrestling Club. The wrestling team consistently has 100 plus members.

The Wrestling program currently holds a school record 15 state championships. The Crusaders have won 103 individual state championship titles since 1972. The 2012-2013 team holds the Louisiana Division I State Tournament record for most points scored with 339. The 2000 team holds the Louisiana Division I State Tournament record for

  • Most State Finalist: 12
  • Most State Champions: 7

The team competes in many major out of state tournaments throughout the season.

There are three divisions:

  • Junior High (Grades 7 – 9)
  • Junior Varsity (Grades 9 – 11)
  • Varsity (Grades 9 – 12).

Dual Meets and Tournaments are held throughout the week.
