Mason Williams Selected to All-Academic Wrestling Team

Congratulations to senior wrestler Mason Williams on being named to the ExxonMobile/ISC All-Academic Scholar Wrestling Team.  The Academic Scholar Team is composed of those senior student athletes with the highest GPA from all classes/divisions in a sport.  Mason will be recognized and honored prior to the state championship matches at the Pontchartrain Center on February 20th and 21st. Wrestling Records Stu”PIN”dous Night

The top ranked wrestling program in the state crushed Hahnville with a 71-6 dual meet victory Wednesday night with 11 of the 12 Crusader match victories coming via pin fall. Recording pins for Brother Martin was Steven Shields (113), Seth Gambill (126), Ryan Genco (132), Blaine Elsensohn (138), Mason Williams (145), Seth Johnson (152), Daniel Evans (160), Pierce Williams (170), Yehia Riles (182), Travis Viener (195) and Jacob Clapp at heavyweight. Wrestling Dominates Louisiana Classic

The wrestling team scored 340 points and completely dominated the 45 team Louisiana Classic defeating 2nd place Holy Cross by 123 points. The Crusdars placed 8 in the championship finals with Steven Shields, Stephen Rumney, Taylor Gambill, Paul Klein, Blaine Elsensohn, Mason Williams & Yehia Riles all winning individual titles. Wrestling Grinds Out a Win

Holy Cross scored a victory first as they recorded an 11-1 major decision win in the 103 lb. match. The Crusaders responded with a 6 match win streak to take a 16-4 lead. Brother Martin’s Steven Shields (113 lb.) scored a takedown as time expired to record an 11-3 major decision and tie things up at 4-4. Wrestling Completes Successful Winter Break

During the Christmas break the wrestling team won the South Plaquemine Duals, Trey Culotta Invitational and Bayou Duals. They finished 2nd at the Prep Slam in Atlanta falling to the nations #1 ranked team but scoring 271 points and placing 12 of 14 starters in the top 6 of the national prep tournament. Wrestling is a winter sport. The season begins in November and the state tournament is held in February. Conditioning begins in September, and official practice begins the first week of October. The team also competes in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling as the Crusader Wrestling Club. The wrestling team consistently has 100 plus members.

The Wrestling program currently holds a school record 15 state championships. The Crusaders have won 103 individual state championship titles since 1972. The 2012-2013 team holds the Louisiana Division I State Tournament record for most points scored with 339. The 2000 team holds the Louisiana Division I State Tournament record for

  • Most State Finalist: 12
  • Most State Champions: 7

The team competes in many major out of state tournaments throughout the season.

There are three divisions:

  • Junior High (Grades 7 – 9)
  • Junior Varsity (Grades 9 – 11)
  • Varsity (Grades 9 – 12).

Dual Meets and Tournaments are held throughout the week.
