Wrestling Wins in Grapevine Duals

Last weekend, the Crusader wrestling team traveled to the “Big D” in Texas where they won the Grapevine Duals. The Crusaders took first place out of 48 teams. Wrestling Brings Home Prep Slam Trophy

After winning their seventh consecutive Trey Culotta Invitational title, the Brother Martin Wrestling team was hungry for more. Last weekend, the team traveled to Atlanta, GA to compete in the Prep Slam hosted by Holy Innocents High School. The Crusaders took first place out of 45 teams. Crusaders Win Against St. Paul’s

The Crusader wrestling team captured a 50 – 12  victory against the St. Paul’s Wolves on Saturday night. The dual meet took place at the Bob Conlin Gymnasium and was streamed live on sportsNola.com. Another Win for Wrestling in Black Horse Invitational

The Crusader wrestling team traveled to Germantown, TN scoring 238 points while capturing their 11th win in the Black Horse Invitational.  The Crusaders placed 12 of their 14 starters in the top eight in respective weight classes.  Junior Luke Cotton also won his third consecutive Black Horse title while Patrick Evans took home an individual title.  Finishing as tournament runners-up were Daniel Varnado, Lane Boudreaux and Nathaniel Perdue.  Other Read more »

Steven Shields Named Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to Steven Shields ’17 who was named The New Orleans Advocate Athlete of the Week. In November, Steve wrestled in a competitive 126-pound weight class of the 2016 Cinco Ranch Big 12 Tournament in Katy, Texas and had  four pins in five matches which helped the Crusaders win the tournament with 231 points. Wrestling is a winter sport. The season begins in November and the state tournament is held in February. Conditioning begins in September, and official practice begins the first week of October. The team also competes in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling as the Crusader Wrestling Club. The wrestling team consistently has 100 plus members.

The Wrestling program currently holds a school record 15 state championships. The Crusaders have won 103 individual state championship titles since 1972. The 2012-2013 team holds the Louisiana Division I State Tournament record for most points scored with 339. The 2000 team holds the Louisiana Division I State Tournament record for

  • Most State Finalist: 12
  • Most State Champions: 7

The team competes in many major out of state tournaments throughout the season.

There are three divisions: junior high (8th and 9th), junior varsity (9th-11th), and varsity (9th-12th). Dual Meets and Tournaments are held throughout the week.
