Track & Field is a multi-event sport held during
the Spring. The season begins in January and ends in May. Practice
begins formally
immediately after the Christmas Holidays.
There are three divisions: Jr. High (Grades 8th and 9th), Junior Varsity
(Grades 9th, 10th, and 11th), and Varsity (Grades 9th - 12th). Meets
are usually conducted on Saturday mornings with a typical season being
about 6 to 10 meets, some here in town, others in other parts of the
state. Each division competes against other teams on their own grade
level. Students are allowed to tryout for and participate in 17 different
events. The different events that the students can participate in are:
Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump and Pole
Vault in the Field and 110 Meter Hurdles, 300 M Hurdles, 100 Meter
Dash, 200 Meter Dash, 400 Meter Dash, 800 Meter Run, 1600 Meter Run,
3200
Meter
Run,
400 Meter Relay, 800 Meter Relay, and the 1600 Meter Relay on the Track.
Generally following the Track & Field season, many of the team
members return to other sports such as Football, Cross Country, and
Soccer.
