Crusaders Named to All-Academic Team for Track & Field

Congratulations to Matthew Becnel and Justin Levy for being named to the Class All-Academic Composite team for track and field (outdoor) team. The Academic 4.00 Scholar team is composed of those senior student-athletes with the highest grade point averages from all classes/divisions in a sport. Appleton ’19 Named to 2016 LSWA All-State Track and Field Team

Hunter Appleton ’19 was recently selected to the 2016 LSWA All-State Track and Field Team. Athletes were selected by Bruce Brown from nominations by members of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Hunter captured a 3rd spot in the boy’s 3200 meter running event with a time of 9:44.26. Crusaders Named to All-Academic Teams for Bowling and Track

James Blake ’16 The *LHSAA / Exxon Mobil All-Academic Award Program presented by ISC recognizes the academic excellence of senior student-athletes who have attained a 3.5 GPA or higher. Their GPA allows placement on the Composite All-Academic  or Class All-Academic Teams. Track & Field is a multi-event sport held during the Spring. The season begins in January and ends in May. Practice begins formally immediately after the Christmas Holidays.

There are three divisions: junior high (8th and 9th), junior varsity (9th- 11th), and varsity (9th – 12th). Meets are usually conducted on a Friday or Saturday with a typical season being about six to ten meets, some here in town, others in other parts of the state. Each division competes against other teams on their own grade level. Students are allowed to tryout for and participate in 17 different events. The different events that the students can participate in are:

  • Pole Vault 

  • 110 Meter Hurdles
  • 300 Meter Hurdles
  • 100 Meter Dash
  • 200 Meter Dash
  • 400 Meter Dash

  • 1600 Meter Run
  • 3200 Meter Run
  • 400 Meter Relay
  • 800 Meter Relay
  • 1600 Meter Relay

Generally following the Track & Field season, many of the team members return to other sports such as football, cross country, and soccer.
