Peters Sets New School Record

Over the weekend, members of the Crusader Track and Field team traveled to Baton Rouge to participate in the Catholic High Tip-Off meet. Senior javelin thrower Thomas Peters set a new school record and recorded the farthest throw in the state so far this season. Peters set a new record with a throw of 202′ 10″ shattering the previous record by 7 feet. The Athletic Department hosted a convocation last night in the Tom and Gayle Benson Mall honoring our track and field program. 2014 Bowling, Tennis, & Golf Convocation

The Athletic Department hosted a convocation on Tuesday of this week honoring the programs of bowling, golf and tennis. Moving On

Thursday afternoon, the Brother Martin Athletic Department held a spring signing ceremony in the Thornton Terrace for 9 Crusader student-athletes who are continuing their careers at the next level. Track & Field is a multi-event sport held during the Spring. The season begins in January and ends in May. Practice begins formally immediately after the Christmas Holidays.

There are three divisions: Jr. High (Grades 8th and 9th), Junior Varsity (Grades 9th, 10th, and 11th), and Varsity (Grades 9th – 12th). Meets are usually conducted on Saturday mornings with a typical season being about 6 to 10 meets, some here in town, others in other parts of the state. Each division competes against other teams on their own grade level. Students are allowed to tryout for and participate in 17 different events. The different events that the students can participate in are:

  • Pole Vault 

  • 110 Meter Hurdles
  • 300 Meter Hurdles
  • 100 Meter Dash
  • 200 Meter Dash

  • 3200 Meter Run
  • 400 Meter Relay
  • 800 Meter Relay
  • 1600 Meter Relay

Generally following the Track & Field season, many of the team members return to other sports such as Football, Cross Country, and Soccer.
