Crusaders Conclude Indoor Track & Field Season

Congratulations to the members of the Crusader track and field program who competed in the State Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 17.  Junior Hunter Appleton repeated as the state champion in the 3200 meter! Men of Elysian Fields Take to the Track

The 2018 Crusader Track Team is practicing for their upcoming outdoor season and is gearing up for the State Indoor meet taking place on Saturday, February 17th at Louisiana State University (LSU). 2017 LSWA All-State Teams Announced

Congratulations to three Crusaders who were named to the 2017 Louisiana Sports Writers Association all-state track & field team. This team is selected by Bruce Brown from submissions by members of the LSWA and based on regular season, regional, and state meet performances. 2017 Track and Field Convocation

The Athletics Department hosted the Track and Field convocation last week in the Tom and Gayle Benson Mall celebrating the accomplishments of the season. Track and Field head coach Brad Duplechain and his coaching staff hosted over 100 athletes and their families at the event. Congratulations to Matthew Becnel and Justin Levy for being named to the Class All-Academic Composite team for track and field (outdoor) team. The Academic 4.00 Scholar team is composed of those senior student-athletes with the highest grade point averages from all classes/divisions in a sport. Track & Field is a multi-event sport held during the Spring. The season begins in January and ends in May. Practice begins formally immediately after the Christmas Holidays.

There are three divisions: junior high (8th and 9th), junior varsity (9th- 11th), and varsity (9th – 12th). Meets are usually conducted on a Friday or Saturday with a typical season being about six to ten meets, some here in town, others in other parts of the state. Each division competes against other teams on their own grade level. Students are allowed to tryout for and participate in 17 different events. The different events that the students can participate in are:

  • 300 Meter Hurdles
  • 100 Meter Dash

  • 1600 Meter Relay

Generally following the Track & Field season, many of the team members return to other sports such as football, cross country, and soccer.
