Varsity Draws Against the Tigers

After a scoreless first half, Holy Cross took the lead in the 43rd minute as a Tiger beat the keeper inside the post for a 1-0 lead. Brother Martin (3-1-1, 0-0-1) turned up the pressure as junior Miles Francis sent a volley over the crossbar in the 55th minute which almost tied the match. Soccer Cruises in Season Opener

The Brother Martin soccer team opened its season with a 3-0 victory over fellow Brothers of the Sacred Heart school, Catholic High.  On a cold night in Baton Rouge, Miles Francis led the Crusaders by scoring all three goals for the crimson and gold.  A stout Crusader defense held the Bears to a shutout and helped secure the win. Moving On

Thursday afternoon, the Brother Martin Athletic Department held a spring signing ceremony in the Thornton Terrace for 9 Crusader student-athletes who are continuing their careers at the next level. Soccer’s Perfect Season Comes to an End

The Crusaders soccer team’s miracle season came to an end on Tuesday afternoon with a loss to Grace King in the LHSAA quarterfinals.  After 110 scoreless minutes, the game went into penalty kicks where King outscored the Crusaders 4-3. Soccer is a Winter Sport. The season begins in November and playoffs are concluded in February. Tryouts are usually in the first week of November, but for many returning team members, practice never ends. Many players get together informally during the summer months to train and prepare for the season.

The Soccer program is built on a strong foundation of excellence. State Championship victories in 2000 and 2001 have brought the program to the pinnacle of the sport. Numerous playoff appearances have kept Brother Martin Soccer in the spotlight. Many All-District and All-State Athletes have grown with the program and have gone on to play on the next level.

There are four divisions: Junior High (Grades 7th and 8th), 9th Grade, Junior Varsity (Grades 10th and 11th), and Varsity (Grades 9th – 12th). Games and Tournaments are held throughout the week.
