Cross Country is the Fall Season sport of distance running. The season
begins in September and ends in mid-November. Practice begins formally
in the first week of school, but for many returning team members, practice
never ends. Many runners get together informally during the summer
months to train and prepare for the season.
There are three divisions: Jr. High (Grades 8th and 9th), Junior Varsity
(Grades 9th and 10th), and Varsity (Grades 9th - 12th). Meets are conducted
on Saturday Mornings with a typical season being about 6 to 10 meets,
some here in town, others in other parts of the state. Jr. High and
Junior Varsity divisions run a 2.0 mile race distance while the Varsity
runs a 3.0 or 3.1 mile course depending on the meet.
Generally following the Cross Country season, many of the team members
continue to run to stay in shape for the Spring Track Season.
