Crusaders Dominate Raiders

After suffering their first district loss to St. Augustine last Friday, the Crusaders were in need of a bounce back win. Brother Martin (17-6, 2-1) made a statement in a dominating 73-41 victory over Rummel on Tuesday night. Crusaders Handily Beat Jesuit in Catholic League Opener

In front of an intense crowd at “The Birdcage”, Brother Martin (16-5, 1-0) opened district play with a 50-36 win over the Blue Jays.  Jesuit took an early 6-0 lead, but the Crusaders switched to a full-court press and erased the deficit.  The two teams would trade leads six times in the opening period.  The Crusaders trailed 15-14 at the start of the second period before Brother Martin went on a run to open the lead. Wallis Named New Orleans Advocate’s Player of the Week.

Senior guard Venjie Wallis has been selected as The New Orleans Advocate’s Player of the Week. As a 6-foot-4 guard, Wallis averaged 13 points and 8.3 rebounds per game to help lead Brother Martin to its Crusaders Invitational title. Crusaders Crowned Tournament Champs

In the first annual Crusader Invitational, the Crusaders (14-5) jumped out to a 15-7 first quarter lead and continued to play well throughout the game en route to a 64-42 victory over Catholic-BR to claim the tournament trophy. Crusaders Roll the Raiders

The Basketball Program consists of five levels of competition: seventh grade, eighth grade, ninth grade, junior varsity, and varsity.

Varsity and junior varsity basketball begins with conditioning and weight training in the fall.  The official beginning of practice is determined by LHSAA regulations. Currently, that is the first Monday in October.  Tryouts for all levels take place in November. Varsity and junior varsity seasons begin in late November and run through late February.  Team members are expected to attend all practices/games during the holiday seasons.  9th, 8th, 7th grade teams begin in late November.  Spring practice for varsity and junior varsity takes place in May.  Summer League/Team Camps run from the end of May through the month of June.

Team selections (all levels) are made through a tryout process.
