Robbins and Swilling Recognized for Athletics

2017 Basketball Convocation

The Brother Martin Athletic Department hosted an annual basketball convocation in the Brother Mark Thornton Terrace honoring our district champion and state runner-up basketball team. Crusaders End Season in Finals

Crusaders Earn Nods & Advance to State Finals

On Thursday night, the Crusaders survived a gritty performance by the St. Augustine Purple Knights and held on for a 33-32 overtime victory in the Division I state semifinals. With about a minute and a half left in overtime, the Crusaders found themselves tied at 32. Coach Chris Biehl elected to have the team hold the ball for the last shot. With 0.3 seconds left, Vejon Wallis was fouled and sent to the free throw line with a chance to win the game. Read more »

Crusaders Claim Victory Over Wolves

The Crusader basketball team mounted a thrilling comeback in the fourth quarter to defeat the St. Paul’s Wolves by a score of 69 – 66 on Friday night. The victory puts the Crusaders in the Division I semifinal round for the first time since 2012. The Crusaders found themselves trailing 63 -57 in the fourth quarter, so coach Chris Biehl put his most athletic lineup on the court. The Basketball Program consists of four levels of competition: eighth grade, ninth grade, junior varsity, and varsity.

Varsity and junior varsity basketball begins with conditioning and weight training in the fall.  The official beginning of practice is determined by LHSAA regulations. Currently, that is the first Monday in October.  Tryouts for all levels take place in November. Varsity and junior varsity seasons begin in late November and run through late February.  Team members are expected to attend all practices/games during the holiday seasons.  9th and 8th grade teams begin in late November.  Spring practice for varsity and junior varsity takes place in May.  Summer League/Team Camps run from the end of May through the month of June.

Team selections (all levels) are made through a tryout process.
