Campers Reach New Heights at Basketball Camps

This summer, Brother Martin hosted not one but two successful basketball camps. Campers Got ‘All the Right Moves’ at Basketball Camp

In July, new and former campers returned to Brother Martin’s campus for the 2017 Brother Martin Basketball Camp. This year varsity head basketball coach Chris Biehl directed the camp. Robbins and Swilling Recognized for Athletics

Congratulations to Blake Robbins ’18 and Tré Swilling ’17 who were recognized for their talents by two local newspapers. Blake was selected to the Division I all-state soccer team.  The soccer team is made up of players from across the state who were selected by a vote from every schools head soccer coach. 2017 Basketball Convocation

The Brother Martin Athletic Department hosted an annual basketball convocation in the Brother Mark Thornton Terrace honoring our district champion and state runner-up basketball team. The Crusaders finished the 2016-2017 season with a record of 26-8. Their season ended with a one point loss to the Scotlandville Hornets in the Division I state championship game in Lake Charles. Crusaders End Season in Finals

Unfortunately, the Crusaders lost a nail- biter of a game 53 – 52. The Basketball Program consists of four levels of competition: eighth grade, ninth grade, junior varsity, and varsity.

Varsity and junior varsity basketball begins with conditioning and weight training in the fall.  The official beginning of practice is determined by LHSAA regulations. Currently, that is the second Monday in October.  Junior High tryouts will take place in the Fall. Varsity and junior varsity seasons begin in late November and run through late February.  Team members are expected to attend all practices/games during the holiday seasons.  Eighth- and 9th-grade teams begin in late November.   Summer League/Team Camps run from the end of May through the month of June.

Team selections (all levels) are made through a tryout process.
