Q: What are
your admissions considerations?
A: The applicant’s desire to attend Brother Martin, the cumulative
elementary school record, recommendations of elementary school principals
and teachers, and a personal interview.
Q: Is it better for my son to enter Brother Martin as an 8th or 9th grader?
A: Incoming 9th graders are not at a disadvantage and go through the same
admissions process as incoming 8th graders, but every 8th grader will
receive at least 3 high school credits and will therefore be eligible
for additional courses/electives prior to graduation.
Q: What are my son’s chances of getting into Brother Martin
if he goes to public school?
A: Public school students go through the same admissions process with the
same considerations.
Q: Do you have academic tracking?
A: Students are scheduled year-to-year based on individual needs. Students
can be in both honors classes and academic classes during the same school
year. Brother Martin offers a college prep curriculum in three levels
of classes: Advanced Placement, Honors, and Academic – we do not
offer remedial classes.
Q: What and where is Application Day?
A: Application Day is Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Brother Martin High
School. A placement test, which is used to determine academic placement
for the following school year, will be administered on that day.
Q: Do you offer an Academic Scholarship Program?
A: Yes. Any student who applies to Brother Martin has also ‘applied’ for
an academic scholarship; there is not a separate scholarship application.
The criteria for scholarship eligibility includes: elementary school grades,
standardized test scores, record of conduct, extra-curricular involvement
and/or community service, demonstrated leadership ability, composite score
earned on the placement test administered at Brother Martin. The Scholarship
Committee meets after students have completed the high school application
process.
Q: Do you offer Financial Aid?
A: Yes. Financial assistance is based on need and is in the form of Work
Study/Grant. Financial assistance applies to tuition only, not to registration
fees. Financial assistance is discussed only after a student is accepted
into Brother Martin, not during the admissions process.
