Latin

Latin I
This first-year course stresses basic vocabulary, grammar and syntax especially in their relation to English. These areas are studied in the context of Latin writings in mythology, history and poetry.

Latin II
This course includes more writings in mythology, history and other Latin literature as well as the following concepts: the ablative absolute, participial, conditional. and subordiante constructions and the subjunctive.

Latin III
This course examines an oration of Cicero, poetry of Ovidor Vergil and excerpts taken from a survey of Latin literature. The uses of the subjunctive, participles and gerunds are stressed.

French

French I
This course stresses the skills in listening, understanding, speaking, reading and writing French. It teaches the elements of pronunciation and the essentials of grammar through listening, verb drills, grammar exercises and Storytelling activities. Cultural activities are presented throughout the course.

French II
This course stresses the grammatical structure of the language along with continued understanding, speaking, reading and writing of French. The student is required to read French stories and to compose short compositions, both oral and written. Cultural activities are presented throughout the course.

French III
This course stresses the spoken language. It consists of an extensive review of grammar and requires reading modern French literature, newspapers, magazines, and writing short compositions.
Spanish

Spanish I
Consists of intensive drills in understanding, speaking, reading, listening and writing Spanish. It teaches the elements of pronunciation and the essentials of grammar through listening, grammar, and Storytelling activities. Cultural activities are presented throughout the duration of the Course.

Spanish II
Continues to develop listening, understanding, speaking, reading and writing Total Physical Response Storytelling activities. The entire indicative tense is presented as well as the imperative and an introduction to the subjunctive mood. Cultural activities are presented throughout the duration of the course.

Spanish III
Emphasizes conversation, advanced grammar, reading and writing short guided compositions. Grammar and vocabulary are analyzed through short film, original articles and music.

Spanish IV
This course is designed to carry students further in their development of the four language skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing while deepening their insight into Hispanic culture through an exposure to works of modem writers of the Spanish-speaking world.
